How to use WinRAR.
WinRAR is a great archive manager, as it offers a lot functions, including the possibility to check archives with antiviruses, to set passwords for archives, and to test archives for any errors. Initially, it may be difficult to understand how WinRAR works, that is why we will explain how to use some functions of WinRAR in details. Let’s use WinRAR!
Main area of WinRAR.
In the screenshot below, you see the main window of WinRAR. RARLab offers several themes, so you can change the interface. On the top, there are standard menus. Slightly below (area 1), you will find quick buttons to apply various functions. These buttons are Add, Extract To, Test, View, Delete, Find, Wizard, Info, and Repair. In the area 2 and three, you can navigate in folders and see the path to files. Click on the button to go back in folders. In the area 3, locate necessary files. Click on the button 4 to add a default password for protection or to select a drive.

How to create an archive in WinRAR.
In the main window, find the files you want to archive. Select them and click on Add. WinRAR will offer to change parametres for this archive. Click Browse to change the folder for this archive (WinRAR will save the archive in the same folder if you do not change it manually). Choose the format for the archive, change Archiving options and set a password if needed. Then click OK.

Here you can manage the process of archiving. As you see, WinRAR
shows you the progress bar and the approximate time of archiving.
Additionally, you are able to hide this window in the background,
pause the compression or stop it completely, and select a mode for
compression (normal, fast, etc.).
How to add files to archive in WinRAR.
Click on File/Open and find the archive you want to change. Then click on the button Add. Instantly, WinRAR opens the window, where you need to find the files you want to attach to the existing archive. Select your files (arrow 1) and click OK (arrow 2).
Extract an archive in WinRAR.
Find an archive you want to extract in WinRAR and click Extract to. If you search this archive in the standard Windows file explorer, then right-click on the file and select Extract to from the contextual menu. You will see the next window.
- In the tab General, specify the folder where to save this file. You can click New folder to add new one.
- In the area 1, choose what to do with extracted files. The default mode is Extract and replace files.
- In the area 2, select the necessary overwrite mode. WinRAR will always ask for your permission to replace files unless you choose Overwrite without prompt in this area. If you do not want to replace the files, select Skip existing files. You can save all those settings, too.
- On the right of this tab, in area 4, find the place where you want to save the unpacked files. Then click OK to save the files.
Click on Options on the top of the main and go to Settings. Here you will see seven tabs with various settings. Set up everything as needed, it is really simple.
