How to open WinRAR files.
If you want to open the most widespread archived files, then download WinRAR, which is able to read and extract RAR and ZIP archives. Besides these two, WinRAR can easily decompress other 15 formats, including TAR, ISO, CAB, 7Z, LZH, GZ, TAR.GZ, BZ2/TAR.BZ2, ACE, UUE, JAR, Z, XZ, and ARJ.
Let’s unzip files with WinRAR.
Open the archive in WinRAR.
Launch the application, and then click on File (in the Menu bar on the top). Click on the option Open archive. WinRAR also has a keyboard shortcut to do that, so press Ctrl+O on your keyboard.
Find an archive with WinRAR.
WinRAR will open the file explorer. Find the needed archive and left-double click on it. You can also select the file and click Open in the window.
Extract archive in WinRAR.
In this window, WinRAR shows the contents of this archive. Click on the button Extract to in order to proceed to the next step.
Change extraction options with WinRAR.
WinRAR usually extracts files in the same folder with the archive. Click on the button New folder (arrow 1), if you want to save the files separately, and enter a name for this folder. On the left, select the necessary options. Pay attention to the Overwrite mode: it is more convenient to Overwrite without prompt if you want to replace the existing files with the files from the archive. Otherwise, you will have to authorize WinRAR to replace any file. On the right, select the folder where to save all files from archive.
Extracting in WinRAR.
In the next screenshot, you can watch the progress of extracting. WinRAR opens archives pretty fast, though it depends mostly on the speed of your HDD. If you need, minimize this window in the background. You are able to pause and resume the unpacking, as well as cancel it at all. Click Mode to select other options.
